Angel's Dance Book Review/Giveaway Ends 10/16/11

Hi all,
  I just recently finished reading another great book from Whispering Angel Books.  Angel's Dance by Lynn C.  Johnston is a beautiful collection of poems.  This book of poems is full of love, encouragement, friendship, family and much more.  


  There are so many wonderful poems in this book like, "Sleep Tight, My Little Darling," which is about a child cuddled up asleep.  This one made me think of so many times I have checked on my daughter while she's sleeping so sweetly.  "Winter Days," about a wonderful snowy day, reminds me of the walk my husband, daughter and I took last winter in the woods after the snow.  Everything was so perfectly untouched, quiet, and pure.  Snow like that happens so little here in Georgia.  Ahhh....thank you Lynn for whisking me back to all these beautiful memories!


 Before each poem, Lynn explains the inspiration in which it derived.  I just loved how that made it so much more personal and relatable.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading these poems!  If you love to read poetry or just uplifting inspiration, I think you would enjoy this book as well.  Don't forget, the holidays are right around the corner....this would make a great gift for the poetry lover you know. ;)

"Nurturing Paws" Book Review & Giveaway Ends 9/29/11

Hi all,
  With the recent passing of our beloved pekingese Lexxy, it seems only fitting to share my thoughts on a book I received recently for review.

  "Nurturing Paws"  edited by Lynn C. Johnson, is Whispering Angel Books latest anthology.  I thoroughly enjoyed this smorgasbord of poems and short stories, all about loved pets.  It was very therapeutic sitting with my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Princeton, reading all of the heartwarming sentiments shared in this book.  There is nothing like the unconditional love of a pet.  I know when Princeton looks at any of us with those lovey dovey eyes, we just melt.  "Nurturing Paws" is filled with pet owners that feel the same way.

  I most liked the stories that tell of how the author unexpectedly fell head over heels in love with the animal they were writing about.  For example, the short story, "Fletcher" by Barbara Moe, really made me chuckle.  This story tells of how a woman reluctantly agreed to take care of her son's overactive lab while his family went on vacation.  The first day was so trying that she thought she better have Fletcher boarded.  She shares a hilarious tale of a quite eventful first walk among other things.  I loved reading the unlikely friendship that evolved between the woman and the lab.  I was grinning ear to ear after this story.

  The story of Sweet William, a loving cat, in "Flower Power" by Cona Gregory-Adams, also warmed my heart with these lines, "When William climbs into my lap, curls himself into a ball, begins to purr, and places his paws on my cheeks, my heart melts like warm butter.  It's more satisfying than a caramel sundae or a cheesecake brownie."

  If you are an animal lover, I just know that you will enjoy this book as much as I did.  With the holidays quickly approaching, it would also make a fantastic gift for those animal lovers, who also enjoy a good book!  Be sure to visit   Whispering Angel Books to get your own copy of "Nurturing Paws."

Book Review: "The Harvest of Grace" by Cindy Woodsmall

Hi all,

  I have been reading more non-fiction lately, so I thought it would be nice to switch things up a bit.  I'm in the mood for some light, fun, entertaining reading.  So, while perusing through a list of books to read the cover of this book stood out to me.


  I am so intrigued by the Amish.  There way of life seems so peaceful and simple (and not in the physical way, but spiritual).  So, I read the description and I'm convinced.  Couldn't wait to receive it and crack it open.


"The Harvet of Grace" by Cindy Woodsmall is a wonderful tale of love stories.  I say storie"s" because it doesn't just focus on one couple.  Sylvia must leave her home after an uncomfortable encounter with her old boyfriend.  Devasted, she flees to another Amish dairy farm to try to find contentment in her work. 


  Cara and her young daughter, Lori, run from her home in New York to seek shelter from a stalker.  They end up on an Amish farm, where she has vague childhood memories.  


  I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to listen to they're stories unfold.  This book was filled with love, heartache, betrayal, forgiveness faith and family.  I cried and laughed throughout this book.   The setting was set so vividly with tales of cows mooing, and picnics under a shade tree.  I could just feel the warm breezes and smell the fresh cut hay, feeling as if I'm right in the book sipping a nice cold glass of fresh lemonade.  


  There were many touching moments in this book but, my favorite would have to be when Cara was in the most desperate conflict between her giving forgiveness and holding to an impossible grudge.  She turned to God for grace and had the most touching revelation in doing so.  


  I thoroughtly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by Cindy Woodsmall.  If you enjoy sweet love stories, you won't be disappointed in this book!

Book Review: "PrayerWalk" by Janet Holm McHenry

Hi all,
  Lately I have really felt the pressure to take a hard look at the state of my health.  I am more than aware of the fact that I need to lose weight and eat healthier.  I also have recently felt compelled to keep a prayer journal for prayer requests.  Requests for my family as well as others and to also remember to thank God for all our blessings.


  I recently read the book, "PrayerWalk" by Janet Holm McHenry.  This book is just the inspiration I needed to put both my spiritual and physical fitness in top priority.  This book tells of Janet's journey in how and why she began prayer walking and how she keeps the determination to continue when it is ever so tempting to just stay in bed.    


  This book is full of heart warming stories of answered prayers, as well as the tear jerking story of when she lost her father.  Janet reminds us that God always answers prayers, it just may not always be the answer we are looking for.  


  Don't worry though, there is some humor included.  I had to laugh out loud at this excerpt from another reader who wrote to Janet about the beginning of her journey to prayerwalking, 


"....So I roll out of bed, excited to start my first day of this new way of talking to God.  I pull on my lined Windbreaker pants and have to literally squeeze into them!  Three months ago not a problem, but now my saddlebags are truly saddling!  Oh well, no one is going to see me.  So swish, swish, swish, I head out the door into the chilly darkness.


  Man, my thighs are really making a lot of noise, but who cares!  I'm meeting with Jesus!  Swish, swish, swish...."Good Morning God.""


She goes on to explain how a neighborhood dog hears her swishing pants, which instigates other neighboring dogs to bark as well.  So much for her nice quiet prayerwalk where no one is going to notice her tight swishing pants!  I can just picture people looking out the window in the wee hour of the morning to see what all the dogs are barking about!  Hee! Hee!  Too funny!  


  I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to begin my own prayerwalking journey.
