Happy 10th Birthday DD!!!

  Hi all,
Today is my DD's 10th birthday!  Where has the time gone?  My husband and I feel so blessed to have such a sweet blessing in our lives!  She is just a joy and lights up a room with her smile.

Friday evening was spent at American Girl with her friends.  The picture to the left is when the staff came out with her dessert and candle to sing "Happy Birthday" to her.

Today, at her request, she wanted it to be just the three of us.  She wanted to spend the day with she and I making our first attempt at a homemade birthday cake with fondant.  I was thrilled to try this with her at my side.

So, I found the fondant recipe here at Cakes and Kids .    The recipe is very easy to follow and tasty.  I had a lot of cracking, but for my first attempt I think it turned out ok.  My daughter was pleased, so that's all that matters.

We had a lot of fun making it, and a memory to last.

For dinner tonight, we'll have her favorite.  I call it baked ziti, but it's just a variation of it.  You can find that recipe here.

Happy Birthday Doodlebug! Double digits....Woo Hoo! We love you!

Happy Birthday to her!! My girls would have loved to spend their birthdays in the same way! We are hoping to visit an American Girl store one of these days, but haven't been close enough to one yet to stop in.

I think the cake turned out beautifully! I've never worked with fondant, but think it would be neat to try it with my girls. So glad y'all were able to make memories together!

Tracey,
Thank you! We are lucky to have the American Girl store in our local mall, just 35 minutes away. :) The fondant was a lot of fun, but we still prefer the taste of buttercream icing better.
